Donabate

The brief was to design an open plan kitchen/dining area with a laundry area and WC. The clients had a small kitchen and a growing family and the garden to the rear had stepped access from the kitchen and a steep garden. They wanted to link the spaces cleverly while keeping the spaces linked.

We used the kitchen as a focal point to link the spaces and deal with the level changes built into the depth of the kitchen unit. We were then able to use the level changes and materials to provide subtle visual techniques to make the spaces feel separate but open plan depending on the use.

We incorporated a built in laundry and WC hidden within a piece of joinery running from the stairs into the banquette seat meaning the joinery linked the house front to back.
